Despite all praise for the first countrywide lockdown with curfew imposed from end March to mid May 2020 in controlling the first wave, the COVID-19 virus did spread gradually to create a large second wave in early October from Brandix factory in Minuwangoda and in a week from the Peliyagoda fish market.
The political and health crisis of Sri Lanka is galloping towards an inevitable catastrophe. Apparently there is no escape from it.

The kind of disease that has afflicted Sri Lanka is not one that would cure by itself over time, but one that could only be cured by a complex surgery.
As a young man interested in politics, there were people I looked up to. There were people I believed had unique qualities. Ranasinghe Premadasa was not one of them.
When I wrote earlier this week about what is expected from our largest Opposition party, the SJB, I did so hoping that the party would awake and articulate its vision for Sri Lanka, and its stand on the many gnarly policy decisions that face our country.
