An upcountry Tamil politician who vied for the presidency, is contesting the upcoming general election from an alliance based in the northeast.

Mylvahanam Thilakaraj announced on 09 October that he would be a candidate for Nuwara Eliya from the alliance led by TULF leader V. Anandasangaree.

In the meantime, ex-SJB MP Vadivel Suresh joined Ranjan Ramanayake’s United Democratic Voice to contest from Badulla.

UPF founder P. Chandrasekaran’s daughter Chandrasekaran Anusha, a lawyer, contests from the UDV for Nuwara Eliya as well.

The Tamil Progressive Front is allying with the SJB to contest Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Badulla districts.

Among its candidates for Kandy is Bharat Arulsamy, the former CWC vice president.

Jeevan Thondaman’s CWC contests Nuwara Eliya under ‘elephant’ and Badulla under ‘gas cylinder’ symbols.
