Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Dullas Alahapperuma and Karuna Kodituwakku have all decided not to contest the general election.
All of them were MPs for Matara and their names were not in nominations handed over by the SJB-led alliance and the New Democratic Front for the district.
Abeywardena’s son Chameera is contesting under the NDF’s ‘gas cylinder’ symbol.
So is Pasanda Yapa Abeywardena, the son of former southern province governor Lakshman Yapa.
Nipuna Ranawaka and Weerasumana Weerasinghe are candidates of Sarvajana Balaya.
