Navin Dissanayake, the UNP district leader for Kegalle, has decided not to contest the upcoming general election.

In a Facebook post, he says the party leader was informed of his decision by letter yesterday (10).

Dissanayake adds that he will continue to fight for right-wing, moderate policies without getting involved with the corrupt.

At the last working committee meeting of the party, he stressed that contesting the election under the ‘gas cylinder’ symbol would be unfair by the supporters.

Speaking to ‘The Leader’, Dissanayake said he would remain in the party and make maximum efforts to bring it back on the correct path.

Assistant leader Akila Viraj Kariyawsam too, is not contesting in protest against the ‘gas cylinder’ symbol.
