The URF chairman has quitted the party, while its national organizer has allied with the SJB in protest against the party’s decision to leave the SJB-led alliance and withdraw from contesting the upcoming parliamentary polls.
Dr. Ajith Amarasinghe has resigned from the chairmanship and party membership of the URF, tendering his resignation to the party’s general secretary Bandula Chandrasekara on 10 October.
Its national organizer Sampath Sumedha Pujitha Rathnayake too, opposed the decisions and decided to contest the election under the SJB.
Also, URF’s senior vice president Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe is contesting under the ‘gas cylinder’ symbol.
