A Tamil woman who is a candidate for the Wanni at the upcoming general election from Samabima Party has been summoned to the CID to be questioned over her reasons for contesting.
Sivan Iswari Jeevan said that on the 12th, she was met by two intelligence officers, who have been watching over her since her return from rehabilitation.
Noting her personal background, they inquired from her if she had been forced to contest from that party.
She denied the claim.
Samabima has lodged a complaint with election monitor PAFFREL with regard to the matter.
The party included her among nine candidates for the Wanni and in all, it has handed over nominations to contest in five districts.
In a statement, the party led by Deepthi Kumara Gunaratne described her summoning to the CID as anti-democratic and as a blatant violation of a citizen’s right to engage in politics of her choice.
