An International Media Policy Council for the Protection of Human Rights in the field of Communications has been established with the participation of two organisations of Sri Lankan journalists in the country and abroad.
Journalists for Democracy in Sri Lanka (JDS), the Sri Lankan partner organisation of Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the Free Media Movement (FMM) have joined together with other organisations across the world to form the Forum on Information and Democracy.
They are scheduled to hold their inaugural General Assembly online on Friday (24), to coincide with the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
"As organisations committed to defending the right to freedom of expression on the internet and beyond, we hope to contribute to this process by presenting proposals to civil society. We are independent of the interests of private companies and political powers," said the Forum for Information and Democracy.
