Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has stressed that Sri Lanka must seek international support to recover from the current economic crisis.

He noted Sri Lanka's economy is currently sinking into a deep abyss and the middle class is facing a number of major problems.

The former Premier made these comments while attending a session of the International Democrat Union (IDU) via Zoom before his departure to Abu Dhabi on Friday night.

He observed that the lack of proper economic management in Sri Lanka following the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic has led to the multiple crises the country is grappling with today.

In addition, Wickremesinghe also explained the current political situation in Sri Lanka.

He pointed out that at present, the public is expecting to see new faces in politics and reiterated that the UNP is prepared to fulfil this expectation.

Wickremesinghe who left for Abu Dhabi on Friday night (03) following the IDU conference is scheduled to address the 5th Indian Ocean Conference later today.
