Former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his wife last night (10) made their first public appearance since their return to the country when they paid an unannounced visit to Gangarama Temple in Hunupitiya.
Chief incumbent Ven. Kirinde Assaji Thera and other monks chanted Seth Pirith and blessed the two.
The day being Binara full moon Poya day, a large number of devotees were present at the temple and they surrounded him and expressed grief over the fate that befell him.
Rajapaksa, who fled the country in June in the face of public protests, returned on September 02.
Since then, he has been meeting politicians, that include president Ranil Wickremesinghe, and friends at his official residence at Malalasekara Mawatha in Colombo.
