Jagath Perera has tendered his resignation as chairman of Lanka Coal Company to subject minister Kanchana Wijesekara.
In his letter, Perera claims the tender to acquire coal had been awarded in accordance with the law and with transparency, but it continued to draw criticism and pressure from various parties.
In this situation, he could no longer function in his position, said Perera, who was appointed during the term of Mahinda Amaraweera.
Minister Wijesekara has accepted his resignation, but a successor is yet to be named.
