Sri Lanka’s under-17 team was denied participation in the first leg of the Asian football championship after tickets were not allocated for their flight to Uzbekistan on October 03.
A team of 23 players and five officials could not leave due to the trouble brewing in Football Sri Lanka (FSL).
Sri Lanka will have to pay a Rs. seven million fine for failing to take part in the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Sports Ministry yesterday (04) agreed before the court of appeal to amend a gazette notification to allow for the holding of elections for FSL.
The court took up a writ application filed by its president and the secretary seeking a revoking of the said gazette that invalidates an extension of term of the local football governing body.
