Police have suspended a registration of Colombo city residents following objections raised by a Tamil politician.
Tamil Progressive Alliance leader Mano Ganeshan said he took up the matter with the president, who admitted it was wrong to collect information of the people and promised to order the police to suspend it.
Ganeshan has also written to the public security minister, IGP and the secretary to the president against this information collection.
“This is not a police state to register under the police. That can happen only during exceptional circumstances only. We don’t mind if any law-breakers get arrested,” he said.
