The government loses about USD 30 million in revenue every month due to gold smuggling through the airport, said state finance minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.
Legal action will be taken against people who arrive in the country wearing gold articles exceeding the specified limit, he said.
Such gold smugglers have been identified, said the state minister, adding that immediate legal action will be taken against them at the airport.
He assured that the measures will not inconvenience regular passengers.
