The executive presidency has been misused due to the best person not being chosen for the job at times and the failure of the chosen person at the others, MP Prof. Charith Herath said.
That applies to the incumbent and his predecessor as well, he told journalists yesterday (23).
Prof. Herath said the country has so far failed to choose the best person for the presidency due to the election culture that prevails.
Even the person chosen as the best performs very weakly, he said.
Persons chosen to hold this office should have the discipline of an intellectual, but successive presidents had taken very primeval decisions to take the country to her present sorry plight, he charged.
