The official vehicle of the chairman of Lanka Mineral Sands Ltd. has a fuel tank capacity of 80 litres only, but vouchers show he had obtained 100 litres at a time on many occasions.
In addition, he has obtained fuel under his name to several other vehicles, an audit report notes.
The company’s management has justified these by saying the tank capacity has exceeded due to fuel being obtained to cans to prevent difficulties in obtaining super diesel for long-distance journeys during night-time.
The audit report points out that the Lanka Mineral Sands chairman had obtained 8,133 litres of fuel worth Rs. 1,135,748, although circulars say the head of a state entity is entitled to a monthly maximum of 150 litres.
