Exorbitant taxes and an uncertain future have made around one-tenth of engineers and other professionals in Information Technology leave the country, said president of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka Damith Hettihewa.
According to him, these 10,000 persons have obtained jobs overseas, where there is a very high demand for them.
The Society places direct jobs in IT at 120,000, down from 150,000 a year ago.
Hettihewa also said that despite an annual demand of around 20,000, the sector gets between 8,000 and 9,000 new entrants only at present.
He urged the government to consider tax relief and other concessions to prevent this brain drain.
