Twenty-nine Tamil civilians murdered allegedly in a military raid of a village in Vavuniya 38 years ago have been remembered.
After the attack on Semamadu on 02 December 1984, most of its surviving inhabitants fled to Europe and the US as refugees.
On the same day, 52 Tamils were shot dead at Chettikulam village.
The remembrance included the foundation laying for a children’s park, a Kovil event to invoke merits on the dead and the planting of 1,000 saplings.
Politicians Sivasakthi Anandan and Chandra Kulasingham were among the participants.
