Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle and Duminda Dissanayake were among the notable supporters of budget 2023 at the vote on its third reading in parliament yesterday (08).
President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s budget was passed with a 43-vote majority, as 123 MP voted in favour and 80 against.
MPs of the SJB, JJB, TNA opposed, while C.V. Vigneswaran and velu Kumar abstained.
The vote was taken at a request by chief opposition whip Lakshman Kiriella following a day-long debate on the votes of the Finance Ministry.
At its second reading vote on November 22, the budget was passed 121-84, a majority of 37 votes.
