With the prevailing cold weather expected to persist, parents have been urged to protect children against disease.
Pediatrician Deepal Perera said children should wear gloves and socks and be well-covered from head to toe while outdoors as they could easily catch cold, wheeze and fever.
If the air quality is low, wearing a quality mask is advised.
Continuing cold weather
The Met Department says cold weather is likely to continue in the eastern, northern, north central, Sabaragamuwa, central and southern provinces.
Other provinces are regaining normal conditions.
Meanwhile, air quality has dropped again in the island, with the US air quality index giving over-150 values for several cities.
They include 191 for Colombo, 169 for Badulla, 155 for Kegalle and 146 in Kalutara.
Kurunegala, Embilipitiya, Ratnapura and Kandy too, recorded 100-plus levels yesterday (10), said the National Building Research Organization.
