MP Patali Champika Ranawaka says the protein quality of eggs should be given priority during production and when deciding the price.
Ranawaka has made submissions to the COPE with regard to the quality and price of eggs for consideration by the Consumer Affairs Authority.
An automatic and continuing mechanism should be in place to monitor the production, price fluctuation, protein quality of eggs and the base price, he said.
The MP said agreement should then be reached on a reasonable price for eggs.
During the upcoming festive season, a process is needed to increase the population of chicks and the amount of their feed, he noted.
MP Ranawaka called for the mechanism formulated thus to be submitted to the COPE.
