Former president Maithripala Sirisena said today (31) that he would be the SLFP’s candidate at the next presidential election.
He was speaking to the media, where he also tendered an apology to the relatives of victims of the Easter Sunday terror attacks in 2019.
Sirisena said he was unaware of the attacks, but noted that the court ruling held him accountable for the mistakes of the officials he had appointed.
Incumbent Ranil Wickremesinghe will contest the next presidential election tipped to be held late this year, said UNP general secretary Palitha Range Bandara.
