An inquiry has been sought to find out if cash deposits placed with the Election Commission for the local government polls are misused in any way.
‘Jana Aragala Purawesiyo’ has lodged a complaint in this regard to the CID, where its secretary Chanaka Bandara said there was strong public suspicion if the money was being misappropriated.
He said their complaint asked the CID to investigate if the cash deposits were deposited appropriately and to reveal to the public under the right to information.
The Nawa Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and an independent group contesting for Moratuwa have similarly raised the matter with the Finance Ministry and the Election Commission respectively.
