A new presidential directive has become another hurdle against holding the local government polls.
On January 31, president Ranil Wickremesinghe instructed state institutions to refrain from obtaining goods and services on credit.
However, preliminary arrangements for the LG polls are being made on credit basis.
As a result, the Election Commission is unable to obtain fuel, get printing work done and obtain services of public sector workers.
There is suspicion the presidential directive is aimed at preventing the election from taking place.
