Electricity generation could get affected by any failure to make advance payments for the coal shipments that have been ordered, said the Lanka Coal Company.
A 30 per cent of the payments have been made in lieu of six shipments with 16 more shipments awaited, said its chairman Shehan Sumanasekara.
With three shipments due to arrive shortly, available stocks of coal will be adequate for this month’s requirement.
Sumanasekara has written to power and energy minister Kanchana Wijesekara, asking for Rs. 4.56 billion (USD 12.32 million) to pay for the coal shipments.
