Election Commission chairman Nimal Punchihewa has again asked the Treasury secretary for funding, this time a sum of Rs. 300 million, as expenditure for the local government polls.
Earlier, Punchihewa wrote to him, asking for Rs. 770 million, and in return received Rs. 100 million which has now been exhausted for preliminary arrangements for the election.
An EC official said Rs. 280 million had been spent last month alone for the preparation work.
The EC is due to meet secretaries of political parties today to discuss the LG polls.
Meanwhile, the government printer informed the Election Commission yesterday afternoon that printing work cannot be done on credit.
