Postal voting for the March 09 local government polls has been postponed indefinitely, said the Election Commission.
Scheduled to take place from February 22 to 24, postal voting cannot take place as the Government Press has refused to print ballot papers on credit.
Meanwhile, SJB general secretary Ranjith Maddumabandara said they would unite with all democratic forces to unconditionally oppose any attempt to deny people their right to vote.
In a statement, Maddumabandara urged the president and the government to facilitate holding the election.
Failure to do so will be a blatant violation of the constitutional provisions to hold elections to guarantee people’s supremacy, he added.
