Disrupting functions of the Election Commission is a punishable offence, said JJB executive committee member Sunil Handunnetti.

He is commenting on the government printer’s refusal to fulfill printing orders for the local government polls on credit.

As a public servant, the government printer should act on behalf of the people, Handunnetti said, adding that the Supreme Court has given the space for the Election Commission to hold the LG polls speedily.

What the government printer should do is act in accordance with the commission’s mandate, and any disruption is a punishable offence, he said.

Handunnetti charged that according to what he had learnt, the government printer had been summoned to President’s House and influenced on how to act.

The JJB ex-co member urged her to serve the people without giving into such intimidation, and asked the Election Commission to summon and question her.
