Twenty officials from the United States led by a top diplomat arrived at Katunayake airport last evening (14) in two US Air Force Boeing C-17A Globemaster-III planes, Neth News reports.
From there, they were taken in 12 vehicles with a police escort to Colombo, during which no other vehicles were permitted on the Colombo-Katunayake expressway.
Security in and around the airport had been strengthened for three days in view of their arrival.
