The incumbent president has decided not to place his signature on the verdicts delivered by any court of law in Sri Lanka to implement the death penalty, the attorney general informed the Supreme Court today (23).
Additional solicitor general Nerin Pulle conveyed it on behalf of the AG when the SC took up a fundamental rights petition filed against former president Maithripala Sirisena’s having signed the death penalty handed to four persons convicted of narcotics-related charges in 2019.
