The government has moved to curtail overtime payments at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) with immediate effect.
It comes after a revelation that CPC employees receive overtime payments amounting to more than 3.5 billion a year.
However, the CPC and the Ceylon Petrolium Storage Terminal Limited (CPSTL) have already estimated more than Rs. 3.6 billion in overtime payments for 2023.
The government spends more than Rs. 15 billion a year on the salaries and allowances at the two institutions.
According to a senior official of the Ministry of Power, some of their 4,200 employees receive nearly twice their salaries as overtime payments.
