The National People’s Power (NPP) could be taken to court on a contempt of court charge for having violated orders against holding a protest, said president’s counsel U.R. de Silva.
He noted the constitutionally-guaranteed fundamental right of freedom of expression should be exercised without disturbing the freedom of others.
However, NPP’s Bimal Ratnayake has told Neth News that legal opinion should be sought with regard to the allegation.
The magistrate’s courts at Fort and Maligakanda issued orders against NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake and 25 others against holding protests in Colombo yesterday (26).
