Expatriate Sri Lankans in Victoria, Australia staged a protest yesterday (05) to demand local government elections take place back home.
Gathering in front of the State Library in Melbourne, the Australian Foundation to Save Sri Lanka and others demonstrated against the Ranil Wickremesinghe government’s denial of voting rights for the people.
Protestors also highlighted the oppressive taxes, skyrocketing cost of living, shortage of medicines etc. in Sri Lanka.
The Foundation’s president Nimal Ekanayake, Australian Communist Party’s Andrew Erwin and several others made speeches on the occasion.
