A police crackdown on law students in Colombo yesterday (07) has come in for strong condemnation by their lecturers.
Lecturers at the Colombo University’s law faculty said in a statement the university community was severely inconvenienced by the teargas attack by the police and the anti-riot squad, also causing serious injuries to several students.
Remaining committed to safeguard the fundamental rights and freedom of everyone in society, we strongly reject violation of the people’s right to protest, they said.
The lecturers also condemned the violation of the purity of the university that has space for the freedom of expression in a lawful manner.
