A warrant has gone out for the arrest of the leader of the National Freedom Front (NFF) MP Wimal Weerawansa over his failure to appear for a court hearing today (13).
The case at the Colombo chief magistrate’s court is against Weerawansa and six others over a protest they held against UN human rights chief Prince Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein during his visit to Sri Lanka in February 2016.
Weerawansa, Jayantha Samaraweera, Weerakumara Dissanayake, Roger Seneviratne, Mohammed Muzammil and Piyasiri Wijenayake stand accused of inconveniencing the public through their agitation in Colombo.
The next hearing is due for June 19.
