The Election Commission will meet today (16) to discuss the course of action over the non-availability of funds to hold the local government polls.

Its chairman Nimal Punchihewa said they would take a decision on postal voting, after Government Printer Gangani Liyanage declared inability to print ballot papers without funds.

This will be officially intimated to the Election Commission today, Liyanage said.

The treasury is yet to respond to a request for funds for the election.

The Government Press needs at least Rs. 200 million to resume the printing work for the LG polls.

Once funds are available, postal ballot papers could be printed within six days and the remaining printing work within a month, said Liyanage.
