A Tamil journalist is facing death threats after he highlighted disruptions to transport facilities for schoolchildren in the wanni.
Shanmugam Thavaseelan, head of the Mullaitivu Media Club, complained to Mankulam police on March 16 how he was threatened two days after he reported that the SLTB was not providing transport for students of Mankulam Central College.
He has submitted an audio of a threatening telephone call and the caller’s number.
Thavaseelan has regularly reported that most SLTB buses plying the A-9 are reluctant to transport schoolchildren.
The matter has also been brought to the notice of the Human Rights Commission office in Jaffna, which has written to the SLTB manager in the northern province.
Thavaseelan previously came under attack over his reporting on fuel shortage in Mallavi and a timber racket two years ago.
