The New Lanka Freedom Party has replaced its general secretary Thilak Waragoda with Peshala Jayaratne, a former chief minister of the north central province.
The step was taken at the party’s central committee meeting at the party head office in Battaramulla yesterday (20).
Tensions prevailed at the meeting with Waragoda coming under strong criticism over alleged negligence of duty and violation of discipline.
In the end, replacing him with Jayaratne as proposed by party chairman Kumar Welgama was agreed by all.
