SLPP general secretary Sagara Kariyawasam says both mechanisms for power devolution now come under the indirect control of the president.
Referring to the handover of administration of local government bodies to officials from yesterday (20), Kariyawasam said it was not a situation agreeable to anyone valuing democracy.
This comes after the other power devolution mechanism of provincial councils in operation undemocratically devoid of people’s representatives, he said.
Both mechanisms should run under the guidance of elected representatives of the people, he insisted.
