A government that cannot afford Rs. 9 billion to hold local government polls had printed as much as Rs. 113.5 billion worth of currency notes on a single day on March 15, charged MP Udaya Gammanpila.
Speaking to the media, he said quoting from a Central Bank statement that treasury bills worth that amount had been purchased.
In the same vein, the government could easily have printed the money required to hold the LG polls, he said.
