The post of inspector general of police remains vacant by this morning (28), according to police headquarters sources.
Having completed the retirement age of 60 years, C.D. Wickramaratne was due to retire on March 26.
He has not reported for work since, although the state media reported the president has given him a three month extension.
Media reports also said public security minister Tiran Alles yesterday submitted a cabinet paper to extend Wickramaratne’s tenure.
When contacted, Alles said he did not attend the minister’s meeting due to illness, leaving alone having submitted such a cabinet paper.
