One hundred and twenty lecturers attached to Peradeniya University have violated their agreements with regard to academic studies overseas.

According to a report by the National Audit Office, they had neglected to repay around Rs. 240 million as study costs borne by the university by the end of 2022.

This is despite the university being recommended by COPE to prevent this trend.

In the meantime, 59 of its nonacademic staffers have been paid Rs. 83.7 million as research allowances without their having submitted any interim or final research reports.

The payments were made between November 01, 2014 and August 31, 2022 even without approval by the research management committee.
