Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila says he supports privatization on five conditions.
Speaking to the media today (03), he explained his conditions.
His first condition is full transparency in the privatization process that is to be supervised by an all-party parliamentary committee whose approval is mandatory for any privatization.
Secondly, an effective regulation is needed to prevent a market that exploits the people. Privatization should not endanger national security.
Bargaining by the private sector should be prevented and entities needed to face contingencies should not be privatized, while maximum competition should be ensured by allowing new players to enter the
market.
The state should also retain the strategically-important entities, Gammanpila added.
