The executive cannot influence decisions by the Constitutional Council, said justice minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe.
He was responding to a question raised by a journalist at a road development project at Depanama in Pannipitiya.
He also referred to the matter of the speaker’s vote on the appointment of the new IGP.
He said the issue here was due to the minority party representative not being appointed to the 10-member CC yet.
If it is deemed contentious, the matter of the speaker could be taken to the Supreme Court, added the minister.
