US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for talks today (28).
Secretary Pompeo arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday (27) after concluding his visit to India.
The US embassy in Colombo also tweeted about the discussions between Pompeo and President Rajapaksa.
"Secretary Pompeo met with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today to discuss our economic partnership based on transparent trade and investment, key components of the post-pandemic economic recovery - as well as our shared commitment to democratic freedoms," the US embassy said.
After meeting the President, Secretary Pompeo met Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Ministry of Foreign Relations for bilateral discussions.
The US Secretary of State travelled to Sri Lanka on an invitation extended by his Sri Lankan counterpart Dinesh Gunawardena. Later on, he is also scheduled to visit the St Anthony's Church, one of the Churches devastated by last year's Easter Sunday attacks.
