Former MP M. K. Sivajilingam has declared his intention to contest the forthcoming presidential election as Tamil political parties seemed uninterested in fielding a common candidate.
The announcement was made in Jaffna.
The former parliamentarian said that in case Tamil political parties reached consensus on a common candidate, he wouldn’t join the fray.
Condemning the failure on the part of Tamil political parties to reach an agreement on a common candidate, Sivajilingam pointed out that he had contested a general election from the Kurunegala district against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to assert their political rights in any part of the country.
