President Ranil Wickremesinghe declared yesterday (21) that Sri Lanka is due to come out of her bankruptcy much earlier than expected.
He was speaking at the unveiling of Poson Aloka Pooja at Thanthirimale Rajamaha Vihara by Wijaya Newspapers Ltd.
Referring to the economically difficult times when he took charge of the country, Wickremesinghe said the way out possible by raising production had been agriculture only.
Good harvests in the following years helped uplift the economy before tourism took over, he said, adding that the farmers who made that a reality would never be forgotten.
Present on the occasion were Sagala Ratnayake, Ruwan Wijewardena, S.M. Chandrasena, P. Harrison and Wijaya Newspapers chairman Ranjith Wijewardena.
