Incumbent Ranil Wickremesinghe is yet to give at least a hint to the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) that he is contesting for the presidency again, anidda.lk quoted the party’s general secretary Sagara Kariyawasam as saying.
This is despite certain SLPP figures finding him suitable for the party to field as its candidate, said Kariyawasam.
"Therefore, president Wickremesinghe has not been considered as a possible candidate by the SLPP during its deliberations on the matter," he said.
The SLPP general secretary said further that president Wickremesinghe’s economic policy was market-oriented and had no regard for the country or the people.
"As such, the SLPP would not be agreeable to a political journey together with him," he added.
