A group of government politicians has impressed upon president Ranil Wickremesinghe the urgent need for sterner action to curb the underworld,
reports lankadeepa.lk.
Referring to the daylight murder of businessman Surendra Wasantha Perera, they inquired from the president as to how law and order could be maintained when the underworld is given a free hand.
They also called for strong action against trade union leaders whose strikes inconvenience the public.
Following the wildcat train strike, these politicians said the essential services laws should be strictly enforced.
These politicians include ministers Prasanna Ranatunga, Kanchana Wijesekara and Bandula Gunawardena.
