Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa says he will create one million new business ventures and entrepreneurs, who will be given the capital required.
At the same time, existing businesses will be safeguarded, he said after handing over smart classroom equipment and dictionaries to Dhammaloka Vidyalaya in Heenatiyana, Gampaha.
Micro, small and medium enterprises contribute more than 50 per cent to the GDP, he noted.
The country’s development depends on economic growth, said Premadasa, adding that the main contributors in that regard were agriculture, industries and the services sector.
