Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has charged that bidders for the sale of Sri Lanka Telecom has been chosen in a non-transparent manner.
Speaking in parliament today (23), he said the process lacked responsibility, accountability and transparency.
One of the two chosen bidders is unqualified, said Premadasa, adding that many suspect it to be a crony capitalism political deal.
SLT’s assets calculations were rampant with irregularities, with both the institution and International Finance Corporation taking into account only its immovable properties, he charged.
The value of its land assets has been estimated at a mere Rs. 400 million, although the 2023 SLT financial report places the figure at Rs. 5,800 million, he noted.
It had been a profit-earning institution for many years and disbursed nearly Rs. 25,000 million to the treasury as dividends, he said.
He called for a forensic audit into the institution.
